Fractional Yacht Ownership in the Western Med
The Western Mediterranean is famed for its glamorous ports where the nightlife often surpasses the rock-star styled fun filled days at anchor.
This region is very much about active lifestyle yachting, where coming back into port at night to enjoy some land based gastronomic delights and a cool vibe in the bars and clubs, is very much the norm for yacht owners.
Fractional yacht owners in the western Med tend to use their yachts more as a floating holiday home than a passage-maker. Fractional ownership therefore works particularly well in these waters as berthing costs tend to be among the highest in the world, and an idle yacht can become restrictively expensive. Through shared ownership, the mooring is in constant use, balancing-out the value proposition.
Yachts in these waters tend to fall into two primary categories:
• Sleek flybridge yachts designed to offer high occupancy levels of accommodation coupled with ample living space. Sub 60ft yachts often boasting 3 spacious cabins, and over 60ft yachts offering 4 cabins or more. These make ideal holiday-home type fractional yachts, as they are perfectly configured to blend the mix of style and comfort desired.
• Rapid and purposeful looking open yachts to offer extensive outdoor entertaining areas, very much with day boating in mind. These yachts are ideally suited to fractional ownership when combined with a land based holiday home and often bought by villa owners who would like some time at sea but wish to avoid the costs and hassle of outright yacht ownership.

Falcon 86 Syndicate Information
This Falcon 86 is undoubtably the best one there is. That’s quite a statement to make, but when one learns of just how extensive her 2019 refit has been, it almost seems an understatement. When taking on such a project, one has to make sure that the actual yacht is deserving. She needs to be timeless in design and have the initial build integrity to justify the refit expense. This yacht truly ticked those boxes. The outcome is quite amazing, she now has a classic but luxurious feel, coupled with that sharp and clean new look.
This spacious yacht was selected by the syndicate because she has 4 high calibre cabins, sleeping 10 guests as two cabins have further fold out pullman berths. The owners’ cabins boasts a separate access stairwell which offers superb privacy, even when there are 10 guests on board. Each cabin has a decent sized en-suite heads so no guests feel they have the drawn the short straw. The syndicate is made up of shareholders each enjoying 6 weeks use a year, with a couple of shareholders having bought 2x 6 week shares so they can enjoy fortnights on board at a time. There is an even spread of nationalities as well as retirees versus parents with school age children. This means there is a broad cross-section of preferences regarding the choice of school holidays, and those who prefer to avoid time on board during those busier periods in the Cote d’Azur.Having a full time crew on board means this yacht can cover greater distances without always having to return to its home port for change-over days. The co-owners therefore sometimes pre-arrange change-overs in say Corsica or Sardinia to extend her cruising grounds. Her home port is Menton and her mooring is set in a particularly peaceful location with lovely views of the old town and yet only a 45 minute drive from Nice Airport. This syndicate is a Fractional Association Platinum Member, working to the association’s Code of Conduct and fulfil their Maintenance Management criteria. This includes an owners’ website for the selection of their weeks, a communication forum and real time access to the management accounts. The expertise of the syndicate is immediately recognisable by their careful selection of this very high calibre and completely updated and refitted customised yacht.
